1.6T OPTICAL · SELECTION & RFQ

1.6T Optical Interconnect Selection & RFQ Guide for AI Data Centers

1.6T is already a current project requirement. The buying question is no longer “when will 1.6T arrive?” but which exact 1.6T configuration fits the host platform, topology, reach, fiber plant and deployment date.

1.6T is a product class, not one universal PNExact implementation remains platform and vendor specific.
OSFP supports a 1.6T host-interface pathThe current OSFP MSA defines 1.6TAUI-8 using eight 200G-class lanes.
Breakout is host-capability dependent1×1.6T, 2×800G, 4×400G or 8×200G mappings require actual host support.
Standards and products are different evidence layersCommercial availability does not mean every implementation is identical to a final Ethernet standard.

Eight inputs before an exact 1.6T part recommendation

A useful RFQ converts a bandwidth request into an endpoint-to-endpoint link definition.

What the current public specifications actually establish

OSFP host interface

  • OSFP MSA Rev 5.22 defines 1.6TAUI-8 over eight 224G-PAM4 electrical lanes.
  • The same host-interface framework allows multiple PMD mappings when the host ASIC supports them.
  • This establishes an electrical/form-factor framework, not universal platform compatibility.

Current platform evidence

  • NVIDIA currently publishes a 1.6T/800G OSFP interconnect class for AI networking.
  • Its published platform table ties that class to specific switches, NIC families and optical reaches.
  • Use vendor-specific evidence for the actual endpoint instead of generalizing one vendor's matrix to every platform.
Standards status: IEEE P802.3dj covers 1.6 Tb/s Ethernet and remains in the standards process as of September 2026. QIANWU therefore separates current product supply from claims about final IEEE standard conformance.
