800G 2×FR4 Optical Module

2×FR4 combines two 400G FR4 optical links in an 800G-class module. Host support, connector layout and cabling must be confirmed for the target platform.

Selection notes

✓Confirm whether the host uses OSFP800 or QSFP-DD800 and supports the required 2×400G mode.
✓Confirm dual-link port mapping before patch-cord selection.
✓Confirm single-mode fiber loss budget and target reach.
✓Confirm native 800G, 2×400G breakout or interoperability requirements.
Connector / cabling note
Connector type and port mapping depend on the exact PN.

2×FR4 is a dual-engine implementation, not a universal 800G connector rule

A current NVIDIA implementation packages two 400G FR4 optical engines inside an 800G Twin-port OSFP module. Other platforms may use different mechanics, port modes or supported optical architectures.

Current NVIDIA example

  • 800G Twin-port OSFP with two internal 400G FR4 optical engines.
  • Two Duplex LC optical ports, each carrying a 400G wavelength-multiplexed path.
  • Single-mode reach up to 2 km in the documented platform implementation.
  • Used for supported Quantum-2 / Spectrum-4 switch-to-switch paths in NVIDIA documentation.

What must still be confirmed

  • Exact host cage and whether the platform supports the required 2×400G port behavior.
  • Connector layout, port mapping and optical patching for the selected PN.
  • Protocol, firmware / FEC, CMIS and interoperability requirements.
  • Whether the project needs native 800G transport, two 400G logical paths or another architecture.
Architecture boundary: do not treat “2×FR4” as interchangeable with DR8 or with every 800G host. The exact platform, dual-engine mapping and LC fiber path must be confirmed.
