800G QSFP-DD DR8 Optical Module

QSFP-DD800 and OSFP800 are different physical form factors. This page is for projects that specifically require the QSFP-DD800 mechanical interface and a DR8-class optical architecture.

Selection notes

✓Confirm the host cage is QSFP-DD800; OSFP800 modules are not physically interchangeable.
✓Confirm the vendor/platform 800G electrical lane mapping and supported firmware.
✓Confirm the MPO fiber interface, polarity and breakout requirement.
✓Validate the exact PN against the target switch/NIC before volume shipment.
Connector / cabling note
Parallel MPO implementation; connector details must be confirmed against the exact module and fiber plant.

Project validation before quotation

Before we recommend an exact PN, send the host platform, port type, link topology, reach, quantity and required date.

Separate QSFP-DD800 host mechanics from the DR8 optical class

QSFP-DD800 defines an eight-lane host/module ecosystem, while 800GBASE-DR8 defines an eight-lane parallel single-mode optical class. Both layers must match the actual platform and module PN.

QSFP-DD800 host layer

  • QSFP-DD Hardware Rev 7.1 defines up to 800 Gb/s over eight 100G electrical lanes.
  • The QSFP-DD / QSFP-DD800 cage and connector ecosystem is defined separately from OSFP.
  • Thermal envelope, host cage implementation and supported port modes remain platform-specific.
  • Backward compatibility in the MSA does not prove every host supports every legacy module or operating mode.

800GBASE-DR8 optical layer

  • IEEE Std 802.3df-2024 defines an eight-lane single-mode DR8 optical class with 500 m-class reach.
  • Parallel-fiber MDI, MPO implementation and polarity must be confirmed against the exact module.
  • Firmware, FEC, CMIS / diagnostics and breakout behavior remain part of platform validation.
  • Do not infer a vendor PN from “800G QSFP-DD DR8” alone.
Compatibility boundary: form factor + headline rate + DR8 label is a technical starting point, not proof of end-to-end interoperability. Exact host, module, fiber and software evidence remain required.

800G QSFP-DD800 DR8 buying and validation questions

Model-specific engineering and supplier evidence is required before any quotation or compatibility claim.

What makes QSFP-DD800 DR8 different from OSFP DR8?

Although both can describe an 800G DR8 optical class, their physical host form factors are not interchangeable.

Does 500 m-class reach guarantee my fiber run?

No. Confirm the exact source PN, optical budget, connector and field fiber path.

What should I verify on the host?

Confirm host and peer platforms, cage, port operating mode, firmware, FEC and management diagnostics.

Can I obtain verified product information and sample terms?

Request the exact supplier PN, source datasheet and sample-validation scope; price and delivery follow written confirmation.
